    • 1). Loosen the taillight lens screws. Pull the taillight housings forward to expose the tail lamp wires. Each wire is color-coded; consult the schematic to determine which electrical functions are served by each wire.

    • 2). Place a quick-splice connector on the brake signal wire. Insert the free end of the trailer harness blue wire into the quick-splice connector, and crimp the connector to the wire pair.

    • 3). Place a quick-splice connector on the right-turn signal wire. Insert the free end of the trailer harness green wire into the quick-splice connector, and crimp the connector to the wire pair.

    • 4). Place a quick-splice connector on the left-turn signal wire. Insert the free end of the trailer harness yellow wire into the quick-splice connector, and crimp the connector to the wire pair.

    • 5). Place a quick-splice connector on the tail-lamp signal wire. Insert the free end of the trailer harness brown wire into the quick-splice connector, and crimp the connector to the wire pair.

    • 6). Place a quick-splice connector on one of the taillight grounding wires. This wire will be the same color on both taillight receptacles--often black. Insert the free end of the trailer harness white wire into the quick-splice connector, and crimp the connector to the wire pair.

    • 7). If you are installing a seven-way trailer connector, place a quick-splice connector on the backup lamp signal wire. Insert the free end of the trailer harness purple wire into the quick-splice connector, and crimp the connector to the wire pair.

If you are wiring a six-way trailer connector, skip this step, and proceed to the next step.

    • 8). Run a length of wire from the vehicle positive terminal to the vehicle’s rear bumper. Route the wire so that the wire does not come in contact with any hot or moving vehicle parts. At the battery end of the wire, strip ½ inch of insulation from the wire end. Crimp the spade connector to the wire end. Loosen one of the top bolts on the positive battery cable, and place the spade connector between the bolt and the battery cable end. Tighten the bolt so it holds the spade connector snugly to the battery cable.

    • 9). Place a quick-splice connector on the other end of the wire that has been run from the battery to the bumper. Insert the free end of the trailer harness red wire into the quick-splice connector, and crimp the connector to the wire pair.
